Hyde Park, New York

The Town of Hyde Park is in the northwest section of Dutchess County just north of the City of Poughkeepsie. The town borders the Hudson River on the west and is 39.8 square miles. At the 2000 Census, the population of Hyde Park was approximately 21,000 people. Hyde Park is famous for being the hometown of our 32nd president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. F.D.R. used his residence, known as “Springwood”, throughout his life, and it is now a National Historic Site.

Hyde Park is also home to the Culinary Institute of America, one of the most well known and respected schools for the culinary and pastry arts. Reservations to try the meals prepared by the students have a several month waiting list. The town also boasts one of the Frederick William Vanderbilt mansions, which is now maintained by the Vanderbilt Mansion Historic Site. Hyde Park was originally known as “Stotenburgh”, and the name was officially changed to Hyde Park in 1812 in honor of Edward Hyde, a governor of the State of New York.

The Town Court is located at 4383 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, New York 12538, and the judges are John M. Kennedy and David L. Steinberg.
