The Town of Ramapo was formerly known as New Hempstead. It is located in the southwestern corner of Rockland County. Ramapo has an approximate population of 109,000 residents.
During the Revolutionary War, it has been reported that General George Washington climbed the Ramapo Torne to watch the movement of British ships off of Sandy Hook.
In 1841, the first railroad line was built and travelled across Rockland County from Piermont to Ramapo.
